The old bricks glow softly in the evening light. Each prang (rounded top tower) and chedi (pointed top tower) was once covered with stucco decorations and paint. After Ayuthaya was sacked in 1767, King Rama I ordered the use of its old bricks to construct Bangkok. In 1851 King Rama IV began partial restoration, and this was expedited in 1982 when tourism became significant. |
